Meet Dr. Nick Prater
Dr. Nick Prater
As a pediatric dentist, I love helping kids be the healthiest they can. However, the best part of my job is getting to know my patients and watching them grow and mature. I cherish every patient as if they were my own child, and always make each one feel special and empowered while in my office.
Education and Continuing Education
In order to become a pediatric dentist, I first attended the University of Tennessee Dental School. I then graduated from the University of Missouri – Kansas City with a certificate in Pediatric Dentistry. Although my formal education is complete, I am always pursuing new methods that will benefit my patients. Over the last 33 years, I have spent 5,000 hours in orthodontic training and studied under Dr. Gerald Samson. I was also a special guest instructor with the Gnathos Orthodontic Society Erbium Training.
In the Office
I have been honored to be selected as one of “American's Top Dentists 2011” and “One of KC 100 Super DDS 2011.” My patients are my highest priority, and I do whatever I can to make sure they know how important their oral health is.
I love working with kids! Every day is different and exciting to me, and I wouldn't have it any other way. My patients keep me on my toes with their honesty and humor. I love my job, and always give my greatest efforts for my little patients.
Family and Community
I was raised in Tennessee, but I call Olathe my home, as I have lived here for more than 30 years now. My wife, Patty, is a former flight attendant and a current social worker. My son, Sean, is at Medical School at Duke in North Carolina. My daughter, Brianna, is going to Dental School in Arizona. In my spare time, I enjoy golf, being outdoors, travel, family, fishing, gardening and going to the movies.
My community is very important to me, especially educating children about dental health. Each year we try to visit as many classrooms as we can to teach children the importance of dental health.
